Faces of the APA:
Vegas Bound
Tammy Oakland is relatively new to Southern Colorado's APA Pool Leagues, although she has been playing pool all her life. At the age of 8, Tammy and her friends would hang out in her garage and shoot pool, and by her early teens she really started to learn the game with some tips from her brother and father--and lots of practice.
Tammy has a passion for pool. In place of a dining room table, she decided to go with a pool table. After all, you only use the dining room table once in awhile--you can use the pool table all the time! Although Tammy had won pool tournaments before, she had never participated in APA League play, but that was all about to change. Out of the blue, Tammy's niece, Kristy, called her and told her that she had joined a pool league and asked if she would tag along for moral support. Sitting on the sidelines--watching and not playing--killed Tammy. The team had one spot remaining on their roster, so Tammy joined the team and now plays on four teams--8-Ball and 9-Ball--playing twice a week.
Tammy's team Vegas Bound ended up the 2006 Spring Session 9-Ball Division Champions, earning a spot at the Southern Colorado APA Pool Leagues Spring Qualifier where her team seized the moment, winning the entire tournament and taking home trophies, jackets, and $1,000 in prize money! As a skill level 4 Tammy won four out of her five matches during the event, helping her team win the title and giving them a chance to play the following week for a spot at the 2006 APA National Team Championships.
Tammy is the co-host of the Berry for Breakfast radio show in Colorado Springs, Colo. Other than playing pool she enjoys football, riding her Harley Davidson soft-tail motorcycle and spending time with her German shepherd.
