Faces of the APA:
Member Wins Local Tournament Three Years in a Row

Wayne WilliamsFor the third straight year, Wayne Williams of Chambersburg, Pa., has won the annual Players Cash Tournament in Baltimore, Md. Each year, League Operators Vin and Fran Berg host this tournament for their APA members in the Pennsylvania counties of Lancaster and Franklin. The tournament is set up much like the National Singles 8-Ball Championship. They run four boards, one for Skill Levels 2 & 3, two for Skill Levels 4 & 5 and one for Skill Levels 6 & 7. Wayne placed 1st in the Skill Levels 6 & 7 bracket; he took home a trophy and $600.

The Tournament, held at the Sports 2000 billiard parlor in early November is just south of Baltimore; it houses 34 bar-sized pool tables. Each year 125 area players come out for the challenge. “Anyone from the area is welcome to play,” said Vin Berg, APA League Operator, “most of our entries are Skill Levels 4 & 5, and so we run two boards there. We always have a really good turnout, but we’ve never had anyone win it three years in a row!”

Williams has been an APA member for three years and plays on a team out of the Chambersburg Moose Lodge. “I’ve played in this tournament since I became an APA member. I have considered competing in the U.S. Amateur Championship®, but both these tournaments take place on the same weekend! Next year, I might consider competing in the U.S. Amateur Championship®,” said Williams.
