APA 8-Ball Singles Wheelchair Challenge

Hans Takes Home A Win

The APA 8-Ball Wheelchair Challenge ended Wednesday, August 23, 2006.  After eight rounds of competition the 32-person board had been whittled down to just two.  Charlie Hans a SL 7 from Cincinnati, Oh. was up against Andrew Niebrugge a SL 4 from Decatur, Ill.   The race was 5 to 2.

Hans won the lag to start the match.  Hans dominated most of the match, capturing the first four wins.  Even though he claimed the wins, Niebrugge held his own during the event, clearing most of his balls every game but he just couldn’t catch a break to sink the 8-Ball.

In the fifth game Niebrugge got his chance when Hans played on the 8 four turns.  Niebrugge captured his first game.  The last game was hill-hill.  Hans felt the pressure and captured the game, declaring him APA 8-Ball Wheelchair Challenge Champion.

“The overall tournament was great,” said Hans, who took home $1500 prize money, “I came in 5th place last year, competition was great this year, and I had a great time.”
