2020-2021 Poolplayer Championships Event Frequently Asked Questions

APA Poolplayer Championships

Pre-Event FAQ

When can I register for the tournament?

Online registration for each tournament begins 2 weeks before the start of the event and closes 24 hours prior to the start of that event. You’ll register through your Member Services account. We HIGHLY ENCOURAGE all tournament participants to register online. It’ll save you time and hassle – when you get to Vegas you’ll just need to worry about being at your first match on time and enjoying the sights! Onsite registration will be extremely limited. Log in to your Member Services account at https://league.poolplayers.com.

What happens if one of my players does not Register Online for the tournament?

If a player does not register online for the event, they will need to register onsite, and sign the Certification Statement or they will not be allowed to play.

I registered for my event online, do I need to check-in when I get to the tournament?

No, you do not need to check-in onsite if you have registered online.  Just show up for your first match to the table you are assigned in CompuSport.

How will I receive my Travel Allowance and Registration Prize Package (8-Ball Classic & 9-Ball Shootout only)?

There will be designated dates/times onsite for you to pick up your travel allowance and prize package. You can find that info in the event program (https://media.poolplayers.com/2020-2021-Poolplayers-Championships-Event-Program/index.html).

Can I bring my cue on the plane or will I need to check it?

Pool cues must be checked on the plane, they cannot be carried on. Be sure to put a luggage tag on your cue case so it’s identifiable.

You may also opt to ship your pool cue and case directly to the Westgate.  Please visit the Westgate FedEx website for more information.

Are spectators allowed?

Yes, since Clark County, Las Vegas, dropped capacity restrictions as of June 1, we welcome spectators! There is no cost for spectators to watch.

What should I pack?

Despite the hot weather, the APA tournament rooms can often become chilly, so having a jacket or sweatshirt on-hand is a smart bet.  You’ll also be walking a lot in Vegas (a lot more than you think you will), so bring a pair of comfy, sensible shoes.

Tournament wear for men includes jeans, casual slacks, dress pants, shorts, and sleeved shirts in good taste. Athletic apparel is not allowed. Proper footwear must be worn at all times. All attire must be clean without profanity, tears, holes, or stains.

Tournament wear for women includes jeans, casual slacks, dress pants, shorts, capris, skirts, dresses, and shirts in good taste. Dresses, shorts, and skirts must be of conservative length. Athletic apparel is not allowed. Proper footwear must be worn at all times. All attire must be clean without profanity, tears, holes, or stains.

The attire for the matches in the PoolDawg Championship Arena will be nice casual. Team shirts in good taste are acceptable. Hats, denim shorts, athletic apparel, and blue jeans are not allowed.  REMEMBER – finals matches are live streamed across the world! For more information on the APA Las Vegas Championships Dress Code visit https://poolplayers.com/apa-las-vegas-championships-dress-code/

Pain relievers are always a good idea to pack, because, well, you know, it’s Vegas. Chapstick, lotion and sunscreen are also must-haves with the dry, sunny climate. A water bottle is also a good idea.

Do I need to bring/wear a mask?

Masks are still required in airports and on airplanes and other federally-mandated forms of transportation through at least September 13, 2021.

Masks are required when riding the Las Vegas Monorail.

Updated: 7/29/21 (11:00 am CT) – The state of Nevada, in accordance with updated Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Guidance (CDC), has reinstated a mandatory mask requirement for counties with substantial or high transmission rates of Covid-19. Clark County, where Las Vegas is located, is one of 12 counties in Nevada currently with substantial or high transmission rates.

The new mask requirement includes both vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals, with all individuals required to wear a mask in indoor public settings.

The new mask requirement takes effect at 12:01 am on Friday, July 30, 2021, and will be in effect until further notice. We do not anticipate this policy will change prior to the completion of the APA Poolplayer Championships on Aug. 14, 2021.

Attendees must wear a mask while in indoor public settings. Mask may be temporarily removed under the following circumstances:

  • A participant or attendee is actively eating or drinking
  • A participant is at the table shooting (must mask up following their turn at the table)
  • A participant is asked to verify their identity by showing their face and their driver’s license

Masks may be difficult to secure in Las Vegas. All event attendees and guests should bring their own masks to Las Vegas to comply with the new mask requirements.

Note: All attendees traveling to Las Vegas via commercial air travel are already required to wear a mask in the airport and on the plane.

Failure to comply with Nevada’s mask mandate may result in an attendee being asked to leave the APA Tournament area and/or the Westgate Las Vegas property. APA and the Westgate sincerely appreciate your cooperation in helping us conduct our largest event since the Covid-19 pandemic began as safely as possible.

We hope you’re as excited as we are to finally return to Las Vegas, and we look forward to seeing you there!

What do I need to know about traveling?

Allow plenty of EXTRA time when traveling.

Extra time to get to the airport and go through TSA screening (we have seen reports of long wait times to get through TSA).

Extra time to get back to the airport and go through TSA in Vegas to fly home.

Due to the ongoing worker shortage due to COVID-19, some airport food outlets may not yet be open or fully operational – it doesn’t hurt to be prepared by bringing a few snacks and an empty water bottle in your carry-on bag in case you run into this at your airport.

If you’re staying at a hotel other than Westgate, you may need extra time to call for an Uber/Lyft/Taxi to get to the Westgate in time for your matches.

If you’re staying at the Westgate, allow extra time to get from your room to your matches.  Even in a good year, the elevators can be slow due to the sheer volume of people using them, but with some anticipated desire not to want to pack like sardines into an elevator, it should be planned on it being slower to use the elevators.

If you’re traveling to a dinner reservation or show, allow extra time for Uber/Lyft/taxi.

How do I get to the hotel after getting off the plane?

There are lots of transportation options available from the airport and around Vegas. You can rent a car or take a shuttle bus. Be sure to utilize your APA discounts for these options!

Other options include a taxi, Uber, Lyft or a limo. When you get off the plane and head to baggage claim, follow the signs to the different transportation options. There’s generally a line of taxis ready to take travelers. With Uber or Lyft, you’ll need to use their respective apps to reserve a ride.
