Three former U.S. Amateur Champions are testing their skills against the top professional players in the world this year at the U.S. Open Championship.

Blake Baker (2019), Abrin Schaad (2018) and Raymond Linares (2010) made their way to Atlantic City to compete in this year’s U.S. Open, produced by Matchroom Sport.  Baker and Schaad secured their spots in this year’s U.S. Open by winning the U.S. Amateur Championship, with airfare, hotel and entry provided courtesy of the APA.  Both players had originally planned to compete in the 2020 U.S. Open, which was ultimately cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Schaad defeated Chad Banzinet (USA) 9-1 in the 1st Round, while Baker defeated Mason Koch (USA) 9-7. Linares dropped his first match to former Mosconi Cup champion Billy Thorpe 9-8 in a hill-hill nail biter.

The 2021 US Open Championship is being held at the Harrah’s Resort Atlantic City Sept. 13-18.  Germany’s Joshua Filler is looking to successfully defend his title, while other event favorites include Shane Van Boening, Jayson Shaw, Albin Ouschan and 22-time World Snooker ranking event winner Judd Trump.
