The U.S. Amateur Championship has a new home!  The 29th edition of the high-profile amateur pool competition will be held at the Wyndham Orlando Resort International Drive, in the heart of Florida’s entertainment capital.

This year’s event will take place November 2-5, 2023, with the Womens Division competing November 2-3 and the Open Division competing November 3-5.

“This move ushers in a new era for the U.S. Amateur Championship.  The experience will be more inline with our major championships in Las Vegas where participants are able to stay and compete under one roof, and it will allow us more flexibility and space with the setup,” said APA President Greg Fletcher.

The U.S. Amateur Championship moved to Tampa in 2009, and has been held at Stroker’s for 13 years (not including 2020 due to Covid).

“Stroker’s is a world class poolroom and has been a wonderful home for our event for many years.  The staff there is amazing, in particular the owner, Jose Del Rio. They’ve taken great care of our participants and our staff, and we are so grateful to them. But as the event has grown, so has the need for more space. We’re really excited to be working with the Wyndham! It’s a beautiful property inside and out, in an amazing location our participants will love,” said Bill Tufts, APA Director of Tournament Productions.

The Wyndham Orlando Resort is located in the Theme Park Capital of the World, a destination renowned for its blend of family fun and excitement. Set amid tropical gardens, the Wyndham Orlando is minutes from Universal Studios, SeaWorld Orlando and The Wheel at ICON Park.  The hotel features multiple pools and an onsite bar and restaurant.  The hotel is surrounded by dozens of additional restaurants and attractions within short walking distance.

This year’s U.S. Amateur Championship will be played on 20 9-ft Diamond tables.

Qualifying for this year’s event is already complete. Participants may begin signing up to compete in U.S. Amateur Preliminary Rounds for 2024 beginning November 2.

The U.S. Amateur Championship is open to both APA members and non-members.
