Memphis APA League Operators Bobby & Nika Harvison held their 6th Annual Shoot for a Cure event Nov. 30-Dec. 3, 2023 at the Fitz Casino Hotel in Tunica, Miss. A total of 96 8-Ball Doubles teams, 32 Team Captain-style teams, 40 Open 8-Ball teams from eight APA League areas were represented. In total over 600 APA players showed up to participate!
“Bobby and I had a vision six years ago to do something to give back to our community,” Nika said. “We chose St. Jude because they turn no child away. Never in our lives did we think it would gain this much momentum. We cannot even begin to describe how grateful we are for the outpouring of support.”
A total of $77,350 was raised for St. Jude!
The inaugural “Life Changer” award was presented to Chris Stubbs of the SC Midlands APA for his effort in spearheading fundraisers in his area. Last year, he helped raise over $7,500 and this year he helped bring in over $15,000 for St. Jude! Next year, they will be doing a “Life Changer” League competition to see which APA League invited brings in the most money.
Several League Operators helped make this event a success including SC Midlands League Operators Chris & Stephanie Seiple, Tri County APA League Operators John & Angela Falco, and APA Polk County League Operators Bobby & Tina Powell.
“Memphis APA’s St. Jude Shoot for a Cure fundraising tournament is nothing short of exceptional,” Chris & Stephanie Seiple said. “St. Jude has always had a special place in our hearts and the feeling of knowing we are helping to make a difference in so many vulnerable children’s lives, that we are helping in this fight against childhood cancer, is the most special part of this event. To watch the players from so many different areas come together and open their hearts, selflessly give their time, and empty their pockets for this heartbreaking cause is what makes it so special.”
This event continues to grow every year and everyone involved hopes this continues for years to come.
