Memphis APA League Operators Bobby & Nika Harvison held their 8th Annual Shoot for a Cure event Dec. 4-7, 2025 at the Fitz Casino Hotel in Tunica, Miss. A total of 96 8-Ball Doubles teams and 94 Team Captain-style teams with 5-8 players on the rosters, from 19 APA League areas in 10 states were represented. Over 900 APA players showed up to participate!
A total of $160,001 was raised for St. Jude, well surpassing the record $118,001 raised last year!
“This event isn’t really about pool—what makes it special is what happens when our players all come together with one purpose,” Nika said. “The games are just how we get everyone in the same room. The real story is what they’re actually doing: helping St. Jude give families hope on the hardest days of their lives.”
The 19 APA League areas that participated included Memphis APA, CSRA APA, SC Midlands APA, Manasota APA, Chattanooga APA, East Tennessee APA, NEMS APA, Central MS APA, Kankakee Valley APA, West Sububurban Chicago APA, Logan County APA, Southern Illinois APA, Mid America APA, Tri County AR APA, Central Oklahoma APA, West Fort Worth APA, APA Of North Central Texas, APA Raleigh Durham, Chapel Hill, and Triad APA. In addition, Piedmont APA League Operators Jeff & Cassie Howell assisted with the event, but didn’t have teams participating.
Each League area had an opportunity to work all year to raise money for the event. The League Operators were able to select the player in their area who spearheaded organizing and raising donations throughout the year and nominate them for the “ Stubbs Life Changer Award”.
The “Stubbs League Life Charger Award” was named after the very first recipient of the award, Chris Stubbs. He’s a player out of Chris & Stephanie Seiple’s area who helped bring in a significant amount of money for St. Jude.
The “Stubbs Life Changer Award” was awarded to the following players:
SC Midlands APA: Josh Sturkie
Tri-County AR APA: Karla Cox
NEMS APA: Patricia Clark
Memphis APA: Tabitha Gott
Central Oklahoma APA: Julie Lindquist
This event continues to grow every year and everyone involved hopes this continues for years to come.
“Every match played this weekend is for a family facing the hardest fight of their lives. We’re here because St. Jude gives hope when hope feels impossible, and together, we get to be part of that,” Bobby said. “When you see this many people show up for one purpose, you realize this is much bigger than a pool tournament.”
