Memphis APA League Operators Bobby & Nika Harvison held their 7th Annual Shoot for a Cure event Dec. 5-8, 2024 at the Fitz Casino Hotel in Tunica, Miss. A total of 96 8-Ball Doubles teams, 32 Team Captain-style teams, 40 Open 8-Ball teams from nine APA League areas were represented. Over 595 APA players showed up to participate!
A total of $118,001 was raised for St. Jude, well surpassing the record $77,350 raised last year!
“We always say the heart of an APA poolplayer can’t be measured and this has been proven time and time again when winners give back their prize money to donate to St. Jude,” Nika said. “Together we have shown the power of the APA community.”
The nine APA League areas that participated included SC Midlands APA, Tri-County APA, West Suburban Chicago APA, Triad APA, NEMS APA, Chattanooga APA, Mid America APA, CSRA APA, and Memphis APA. In addition, Manasota APA League Operators Bobby & Tina Powell and APA Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill League Operator Don Ward assisted with the event, but didn’t have teams participating.
Each League area had an opportunity to work all year to raise money for the event. The League Operators could select a player in their area who spearheaded organizing and raising donations throughout the year and nominate them for the “Life Changer Award.”
“We decided to name the award the ‘Stubbs League Life Charger Award’ after the name of our very first recipient last year, Chris Stubbs,” Nika said. “He’s a player out of Chris & Stephanie Seiple’s area who helped bring in a significant amount of money last year for St. Jude.”
The Stubbs Life Changer Award was awarded to the following players:
SC Midlands APA: Chris Stubbs & Josh Sturkie
West Suburban Chicago APA: Connie Pritchert & Ryan Sargis
Tri-County APA: Robert Maltby
NEMS APA: Joey Grammar
CSRA APA: Daniel Strother & John Millet
Memphis APA: Tabitha Gott
This event continues to grow every year and everyone involved hopes this continues for years to come.
