On Dec. 10-11, 2016, Central Colorado APA hosted two fundraising 8-Ball tournaments in Fountain, Colo., and Elizabeth, Colo., in conjunction with their holiday parties.  The awesomeness of the  poolplayers really shined through—they had 54 doubles teams (46 from El Paso County and 8 from Douglas/Elbert Counties) donate a truckload of toys for the Marine Toys for Tots and/or cash donations for local charities including the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation – Rocky Mountain Chapter, Special Kids Special Families, and Douglas/Elbert Task Force.   The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation was selected because it hits close to home; a Central Colorado player suffers from this progressive, genetic disease.  A local player utilizes Special Kids and Special Families. They provide respite care to families who foster and/or have special needs children.  Douglas/Elbert Task Force provides resources to families on the verge of homelessness in Douglas and Elbert Counties. “When the veterans at the Marine Toys for Tots saw the number of toys to unload, they were astounded and extremely appreciative,” Central Colorado APA League Operator Jovanka Mersman said.  “Also, this year we challenged our players by offering to personally match donations up to $1,000!  The players rocked it and their donations exceeded the $1,000!  In all, $2,226 went to local charities!”
