Two APA Leagues have resumed League play as their state and local governments eased stay-at-home orders and other restrictions.  These are the first APA Leagues to resume League activity since mid-March when all APA Leagues across the globe postponed play in response to the novel Coronavirus pandemic.

Both the Mid-America APA in Southeast Missouri, run by League Operator Brad Jones, and the Memphis APA, run by Bobby and Nika Harvison, officially resumed their Spring Sessions on Mon., May 4 after restrictions were lifted in the states of Missouri and Tennessee.

“While most Mid-America APA teams decided to return to League play, there were a couple of teams that were not yet ready to return yet,” said Jones, who’s put measures in place to allow those teams an opportunity to return when they are comfortable doing so.

When your APA League will return depends on both local and state regulations.  Once local and state guidelines allow for the return of League play, your APA League Operator(s), in conjunction with APA Host Locations in your area, will determine when League play will resume.

Jones has worked with the locations that host APA teams to encourage them to take precautions to keep the environment as sanitary as possible.  He’s also asked League members to follow certain recommendations including having only team members who are playing that night present in the bar, staying home from League if a team member isn’t feeling well, thoroughly washing hands before and after each individual match, and discontinuing customary handshakes in favor of non-contact forms of showing sportsmanship, such as a verbal acknowledgment (ex. “good match”).

Unless masks are required by the location, or local officials, neither League has made them mandatory for League players.  That said, if any player feels more comfortable wearing a mask, they are certainly encouraged to do so, so long as it doesn’t conflict with location policy.

These Leagues will serve as guides as more of our Leagues return in the weeks and months to come.  We hope you are as optimistic as we are that Mid-America APA and Memphis APA are back up and running.

While we all want to resume play as soon as possible, please be patient.  It will take longer for League play to resume in some areas of the country, however, eventually, we’ll all get back to playing this game we love.

Until then, stay safe and be well.
