On Saturday, July 20, 2013 the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill APA held the 2nd Annual “Crossing for the Cure” pool tournament—a one-of-a-kind fundraising event for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.  It was a Jack & Jill scotch doubles tournament with a twist—the “Jack” in the duo had to dress as a woman!  The tournament was held at Buck’s Billiards in Cary, N.C., and was an enormous success.  The guys went all out when it came to “crossing for the cause!”  A total of 36 scotch doubles teams participated.

The day started with the “Miss APA” womanless beauty pageant.  All of the guys filled out a questionnaire with their nickname, turn-ons and turn-offs, etc.  They strutted their stuff in front of a huge audience of cameras and laughter, while the DJ played their song and read their information.  Non-biased judges had a difficult time picking a winner, but crowned Wilson Morales as Miss APA 2013.  Morales received a sash, crown and 2-foot trophy.  Check out more pictures on the “Tour for the Cure” Facebook page.

There were multiple raffles and giveaways, as well as a bake sale.  There were separate cue raffles which included two cues, one donated by the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill APA and one donated by D&D Cue Repair.  When the final totals were added up, the tournament raised over $2,900 for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

The “Crossing for the Cure” tournament was coordinated by Leslie Boulware, the APA Ladies Tour Director, with the help of Elizabeth Heinrich and Catherine Wood.  The APA Ladies “Tour for the Cure” offers local area female players the chance to get together for some great competition while also raising money to help find a cure for breast cancer.  The APA Ladies Tour consists of six 1-day tournaments a year.  The events are 8-Ball handicapped tournaments.  The tour sells 30 to 40 tour cards a year and averages 20-30 players per event. The tournaments rotate through local APA Host Locations that choose to participate, with Buck’s Billiards in Raleigh, N.C., and On The Snap Billiards in Fuquay Varina, N.C., being the main sponsor locations. Since its inception in 2006, the APA Ladies “Tour for the Cure” has raised over $15,000 towards the fight against breast cancer.
