On Nov. 26, 2022 Tri-Cities APA hosted a Toys for Tots 3-Person Team Sharking Tournament. It was set up similar to the Team Captains format. They had 23 teams participate in the fun. The entry fee for each player was a new, unwrapped toy.
Tri-Cities APA League Operators Angela & Lance Pate chose the local charity, Johnia Berry Toy Drive. Johnia Berry was an East Tennessee State University Alumni. She moved to Knoxville, Tenn., in 2004 only to be murdered in her apartment at just 21 years old. Her parents started the Toy Drive because Johnia loved giving gifts to children during Christmas.
“With Angie and I being from Knoxville and understanding the loss of a child we knew it was the right place to donate,” Lance said. “They actually have toy drop offs from Greeneville, Tenn., going into Virginia, and they do the pickups themselves. It was so awesome to spend some time with them.”
One of the Host Locations, Breaking Tradition, also provided many items for raffles. In the end, the League raised $510, gift cards and an SUV full of new toys for the Johnia Berry Toy Drive!
