Pre-Event FAQ

When can I register for the tournament?

Online registration for each tournament begins 2 weeks before the start of the event and closes 24 hours prior to the start of that event. You’ll register through your Member Services account. We HIGHLY ENCOURAGE all tournament participants to register online. It’ll save you time and hassle – when you get to Vegas you’ll just need to worry about being at your first match on time and enjoying the sights! Onsite registration will be extremely limited. Log in to your Member Services account at https://league.poolplayers.com.

What happens if one of my players does not register online for the tournament?

If a player does not register online for the event, they will need to register onsite, and sign the Certification Statement or they will not be allowed to play.

I registered for my event online, do I need to check-in when I get to the tournament?

No, you do not need to check-in onsite if you have registered online.  Just show up for your first match to the table you are assigned in CompuSport.

How will I receive my qualifier money?

There will be designated dates/times onsite for you to pick up your money. You can find that info in the event program.

Can I bring my cue on the plane or will I need to check it?

Pool cues must be checked on the plane, they cannot be carried on. Be sure to put a luggage tag on your cue case so it’s identifiable.

You may also opt to ship your pool cue and case directly to the Westgate.  Please visit the Westgate FedEx website for more information.

Are spectators allowed?

Yes, we welcome spectators! There is no cost for spectators to watch.

What should I pack?

Despite the hot weather, the APA tournament rooms can often become chilly, so having a jacket or sweatshirt on-hand is a smart bet.  You’ll also be walking a lot in Vegas (a lot more than you think you will), so bring a pair of comfy, sensible shoes.

Tournament wear for men includes jeans, casual slacks, dress pants, shorts, and sleeved shirts in good taste. Athletic apparel is not allowed. Proper footwear must be worn at all times. All attire must be clean without profanity, tears, holes, or stains.

Tournament wear for women includes jeans, casual slacks, dress pants, shorts, capris, skirts, dresses, and shirts in good taste. Dresses, shorts, and skirts must be of conservative length. Athletic apparel is not allowed. Proper footwear must be worn at all times. All attire must be clean without profanity, tears, holes, or stains.

The attire for the matches in the PoolDawg Championship Arena will be nice casual.  Slacks, polo shirts, team shirts (if applicable) and shoes or sandals must be worn.  Hats, denim shorts, athletic apparel, and jeans are not allowed.  REMEMBER – finals matches are live streamed across the world!  For more information on the APA Las Vegas Championships Dress code, visit https://poolplayers.com/apa-las-vegas-championships-dress-code/.

Pain relievers are always a good idea to pack, because, well, you know, it’s Vegas. Chapstick, lotion and sunscreen are also must-haves with the dry, sunny climate. A water bottle is also a good idea.

Do I need to bring/wear a mask?

It would be a good idea to bring a mask(s) just in case.

APA’s policies regarding Covid-19 are based on regulations and guidelines issued by the state of Nevada and Clark County. Clark County has no rules for face coverings or social distancing in public, and therefore, APA will not be enforcing masks or social distancing at the APA World Pool Championships.

Should the State of Nevada and/or Clark County regulation or guidelines change prior to, or during the event, APA’s policy will change in accordance.

What do I need to know about traveling?

Allow plenty of EXTRA time when traveling.

Extra time to get to the airport and go through TSA screening (we have seen reports of long wait times to get through TSA).

Extra time to get back to the airport and go through TSA in Vegas to fly home.

Due to the ongoing worker shortage due to COVID-19, some airport food outlets may not yet be open or fully operational – it doesn’t hurt to be prepared by bringing a few snacks and an empty water bottle in your carry-on bag in case you run into this at your airport.

If you’re staying at a hotel other than Westgate, you may need extra time to call for an Uber/Lyft/Taxi to get to the Westgate in time for your matches.

If you’re staying at the Westgate, allow extra time to get from your room to your matches. The elevators can be slow due to the sheer volume of people using them, but with some anticipated desire not to want to pack like sardines into an elevator, it should be planned on it being slower to use the elevators.

If you’re traveling to a dinner reservation or show, allow extra time for Uber/Lyft/taxi.

How do I get to the hotel after getting off the plane?

There are lots of transportation options available from the airport and around Vegas. You can rent a car or take a shuttle bus. Be sure to utilize your APA discounts for these options!

Other options include a taxi, Uber, Lyft or a limo. When you get off the plane and head to baggage claim, follow the signs to the different transportation options. There’s generally a line of taxis ready to take travelers. With Uber or Lyft, you’ll need to use their respective apps to reserve a ride.
