The 2021 APA Junior Championships, which were scheduled for July in St. Louis, have been cancelled and will not be rescheduled for this year.
Current COVID-related restrictions in St. Louis County, Mo., do not allow for an event the size of the Junior Championships to take place. The size of the event venue, and the number of participants typically seen at the Junior Championships, also make it impossible to safely conduct the event.
While more than 80% of APA Leagues have now returned to play, many Leagues have yet to resume Juniors competition.
“It’s disappointing for the kids, it’s disappointing for the parents, and it’s disappointing for us. The Junior Championships is an amazing event, but things just haven’t quite gotten back to a point where they need to be for us to host it this year,” said APA President Greg Fletcher.
Despite the cancellation of the Junior Championships, APA remains hopeful, and is actively planning for the APA Poolplayer Championships to take place in August in Las Vegas, followed by the APA World Pool Championships in October.
The APA Junior Championships will return to St. Louis in 2022.
